About Troop 772

Troop 772 serves youth ages 11–17 in the Far West End of Richmond, Virginia. Our program is built on adventure, leadership, and service. Throughout the year, we host monthly camping trips that combine outdoor adventure—like canoeing, hiking, and rock climbing—with active work toward rank advancement and merit badges.

Each summer, our scouts attend a week-long camp with specialized programming for every level, from those just starting their journey to those finishing their path to Eagle. Beyond the outdoors, we focus on building character through local community service and conservation projects, and support leadership training through our youth-led troop and national-level opportunities. Since 1988, we have proudly helped 148 scouts reach the rank of Eagle Scout.

Monthly
Activities

Adventure with a Purpose

Our monthly outings are more than just trips; they are opportunities for scouts to master new skills and check off requirements in real-world settings.

  • Skill Advancement: Every campout features dedicated time for scouts to work on rank requirements, from fire building and knot tying to navigation and first aid.

  • Merit Badge Opportunities: We integrate hands-on learning for badges like CanoeingSwimming, Camping, and Cooking during our outdoor adventures.

  • Diverse Destinations: We explore everything from Virginia’s state parks and coastal shores to unique experiences like military base tours and indoor rock climbing.

Leadership Development

Experience in Real-World Responsibility

Leadership isn't a lecture—it’s a role. Our program is designed to give scouts the space to make decisions, lead their peers, and learn from the results.

  • Youth-Led Troop: Under adult mentorship, our scouts take the lead—planning weekly meetings, selecting monthly outings, and managing troop logistics.

  • Practical Training: We sponsor scouts for advanced leadership courses at the council and national levels, focusing on communication, goal setting, and conflict resolution.

  • The Path to Eagle: We provide a clear framework for advancement where older scouts mentor younger ones, helping every member reach their personal goals.

Community
Service

Character through Action

Service is a core value of our troop. We believe in giving back to our community through consistent, hands-on work.

  • Service-Based Leadership: Every scout completes service hours for advancement, culminating in significant, scout-led projects that benefit the local area.

  • Conservation Projects: Our scouts participate in environmental stewardship, working to protect and restore local natural resources and public lands.

  • Local Service Initiatives: We partner with local schools, churches, and non-profits to support community events and maintain the facilities that serve our neighbors.

Summer
Camp

Adventure with a Purpose

Each summer, we rotate to a different premier scout reservation. This immersive week is where scouts build lasting friendships and master new skills.

  • First-Year Programming: We offer a dedicated "Trail to First Class" track to help new scouts master fundamental skills and early rank requirements.

  • Merit Badge Immersion: Scouts have access to dozens of specialized badges, ranging from aquatics and outdoor skills to science and technology.

  • Advanced Opportunities: Older scouts can participate in high-adventure treks and specialized programs designed for those further along their scouting journey.
